The second access call in EMBRC-IT is now ongoing

EMBRC-IT launches second Access Call to fund excellent research projects for access to marine ecosystems and use of services for marine biology and ecology.

The Venice Lagoon, which can be accessed through the CNR-ISMAR (National Research Council-Institute of Marine Sciences) Operator.

This Access Call allows researchers to apply for funds to access research services offered by selected marine biology research institutions in EMBRC-IT (referred to as “Operators”) for small projects.

EMBRC-IT will sponsor individual researchers for:

      • Access to EMBRC-Italy services (access to ecosystems, experimental facilities, technology platforms)

      • Travel reimbursement (round trip, economy class) for up to 400€

      • Reimbursement of meals and stay (up to 14 days, including weekends) with a maximum limit of 100€ per day, covering meals up to a maximum of 40€ per day.

    Who can participate?

    To participate in the EMBRC-IT Access Call di EMBRC-IT you must meet these requirements:

    You must work/study in an academic institution, or be employed in a non-profit organization or a registered business (Doctoral Student, Post-Doctoral Researcher, Permanent Position);

    You must be working/studying at a university or research institution other than that of the Practitioner to which you want to apply for access;

    Your home institution must preferably be located in a Nation included in the European Research Area. Access to researchers from outside the EU or Associated Nations is possible with some limitations;

    You must submit an innovative individual project proposal through  ARIA portal.

    How to participate? (Documents HERE)

    1. Check the requirements (“Who can participate?”) stated above and explore our dedicated Service Catalog by downloading it from the MEDIA section;

    2. Write your project proposal on the ARIA portal by selecting one or more services from the same Operator. The Local Access Officer will check the feasibility of the proposal, as described in the EMBRC-ERIC Application Process. You will find a Proposal Template and a guide to the ARIA portal in our MEDIA section.

    PLEASE NOTE: Proposals requesting services not included in the Service List for the 2nd Access Call will not be evaluated..

    3. The proposal will be evaluated if it passes the Local Access Officer’s feasibility assessment..

    4. Selected projects will be posted on the EMBRC-IT website and Winners will be notified by email to schedule the period and needs for their stay together with the chosen Operator.

    Priority will be given to:

    First-time researchers applying to access calls or similar programs; researchers outside the EMBRC-ERIC consortium;

    Project proposals requiring physical access to local ecosystems/species/models or unique technology platforms;

    Young researchers, eager to enrich their careers with a unique experience in a new scientific environment, with fruitful new collaborations. 

    Available services include Diving Services, with the support of experienced technicians and operators.

    Altre considerazioni importanti per questa Access Call

        • The applicant must be Project Leader (sole executor of the project) if the proposal is accepted. This Access Call funds the use of services and travel, meals and lodging expenses for one person per project.

        • And an active contract with the home institution (covering accident insurance and other needs) during the period of access is required.

        • Before submitting the proposal, informal contact with the Local Access Officer is recommended to verify the feasibility of the project. The list of EMBRC-IT Operators and Local Access Officers can be found HERE; A positive assessment for feasibility by the Local Access Officer does not imply that the proposal will be funded. Scientific collaboration with the technical and research staff of the EMBRC-IT Operator providing access is encouraged, but not mandatory.

        • If your proposal is selected, you agree to archive the data obtained during the access period as Open Access, as well as the publications related to them must be Open Access.

      Selected proposals

      1. All funded proposals must be completed by June 2026.

      2. Winners will be notified by email, then the User and Operator will sign a contract detailing the User’s stay at the Operator’s institution.

      3At the conclusion of access, the ‘User must prepare a scientific report (using this modeland the Operator must send the Confirmation Access.

      Reimbursement procedures

      1.The User must contact the reimbursement office  [email protected] for authorization and reimbursement procedures required for access. All payments must be traceable, made by credit or debit card.

      All extra costs will not be covered by the 2nd User Access Call.

      2. The Operator must email ([email protected]; [email protected]; e cc. [email protected]) the documents (see item 3 of the Selected Proposals section) with the invoice for reimbursement of the cost of services provided up to the maximum approved and covered by the Grant.

      Data Treatment and Acknowledgement

      EMBRC-IT offers the opportunity to apply for funding for the access of the EMBRC-IT services with a Transnational Access Call through the ARIA web platform.

      Such applications are made by submitting proposals which go through peer review. Additional data are required in the form of your research history, biography, and your project proposal. Personal data for the Transnational Access program will be kept private and will only be visible to those involved within the EMBRC-IT Governance, who check the eligibility and feasibility of your proposal, to the Proposal Selection Panel members who peer-review your proposal, to the EMBRC-ERIC Access Officer for recording of services and to ARIA web platform administrators.

      We use the personal data you provide for the purpose of reviewing your application, arranging the services, and to communicate with you throughout the process. We process your data on the basis of the “EMBRC-ERIC Terms of submission” , in which we will ask you to agree with the last step of the online proposal submission process. We are required to maintain personal data for the purposes of reporting, and to comply with applicable EU and national laws on data protection.

      All reasonable steps will be taken to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with the EMBRC-ERIC privacy policy.
